Q-topia is a Social Support Group for Queer* and Gay Youth, providing safe and fun social activities in Canterbury NZ.
q-topia is a social support group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, takataapui, fa’afafine and all queer* youth (or youth who are questioning their sexual identity) in the Canterbury region aged 14 - 25.
A voluntary group of youth facilitators aged 18-30 organise weekly and fortnightly events including coffee, DVD's, games, events, workshops and many other exciting activities. Facilitators are governed by a code of ethics and are supported by a board who have established q-topia as an incorporated society. q-topia are also members of the Canterbury Youth Workers Collective.
We provide a safe, friendly and interesting space for queer youth to meet others, be themselves, explore diverse issues and be supported in having pride in who they are.
q-topia is a 'queer' play on the word 'utopia'. Utopia is an imaginary place where everything is perfect...well, that's what we're aiming for!
*QUEER is a reclaimed word that we use as an umbrella term to describe our rainbow family identities that includes Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Takatapui, Fa'afafine, Fakaleiti, Pansexual, Asexual and Gender Queer.
